Attendance
Attendance at Eastern Green Junior School
At Eastern Green Junior School we believe that excellent attendance is essential for children to achieve their full potential. Regular attendance allows pupils to access the full curriculum, build strong relationships with their peers and teachers, and develop the routines and habits that support successful learning.
Children who attend school regularly are more likely to make strong academic progress, develop confidence in their learning and feel fully part of the school community.
We are proud that attendance at Eastern Green Junior School is consistently above the national average, reflecting the strong partnership we have with families and the positive attitude our pupils have towards school.
Why Attendance Matters
Every day in school counts. When pupils attend regularly they are able to:
-
access the full curriculum and keep up with their learning
-
build strong friendships and feel part of the school community
-
develop positive routines and habits for learning
-
gain confidence and independence
Even small amounts of absence can affect a child’s progress. Missing lessons can lead to gaps in learning, which can make it harder for pupils to fully access future lessons.
Our Attendance Procedures
Attendance is monitored carefully to ensure that all pupils receive the support they need to attend school regularly.
Registers are taken twice each day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. School staff regularly review attendance data and work closely with families where attendance begins to fall below expected levels.
Where concerns arise, the school will:
-
contact parents or carers to discuss attendance
-
work with families to identify any barriers to attendance
-
provide support where needed to help improve attendance
-
involve additional support services if appropriate
Our aim is always to work in partnership with families to support good attendance and ensure pupils do not miss valuable learning time.
Expectations for Parents and Carers
Parents and carers play a vital role in supporting good attendance. We ask families to ensure that their child:
-
attends school every day unless they are genuinely unwell
-
arrives on time and ready to learn
-
avoids taking holidays during term time wherever possible
If a child is absent due to illness, parents and carers should inform the school on the first day of absence.
By working together, we can ensure that children attend school regularly and are able to benefit fully from the opportunities available to them.
Supporting Every Child to Attend
At Eastern Green Junior School we work hard to ensure that pupils feel safe, happy and motivated to attend school. Our welcoming environment, engaging curriculum and strong relationships with families help pupils feel confident and supported.
By prioritising attendance, we ensure that every pupil has the opportunity to learn, achieve and thrive throughout their time at our school.
