Family Support
Working in Partnership with Parents
At Eastern Green Junior School, children are at the heart of everything we do. We believe that when schools and families work together, pupils feel more confident, secure and supported in their learning. Strong communication between school and home helps ensure that every child is able to thrive both academically and personally.
We are committed to maintaining open, positive and supportive relationships with parents and carers, recognising that they play a vital role in their child’s education and wellbeing.
Parents’ Evenings
We hold two parents’ evenings each year, giving parents and carers the opportunity to meet with their child’s class teacher to discuss progress, learning and development.
These meetings provide an opportunity to:
-
celebrate pupils’ achievements
-
discuss progress across the curriculum
-
identify next steps in learning
-
work together to support each child’s success
By sharing information about children’s progress and development, we ensure that families feel informed and involved in their child’s learning journey.
SEND and IEP Reviews
For pupils who are on the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) register, parents and carers are invited to take part in regular Individual Education Plan (IEP) review meetings.
These meetings allow teachers, parents and support staff to work together to:
-
review progress against targets
-
discuss the effectiveness of support in place
-
agree next steps for learning and development
This collaborative approach helps ensure that pupils receive the support they need to access the curriculum and make strong progress.
Daily Communication
Strong relationships between staff, pupils and families are central to the welcoming atmosphere at Eastern Green Junior School.
Members of staff are available on the school gate at the start and end of the school day, providing opportunities for brief conversations with parents and carers.
If a longer discussion is needed, parents are encouraged to contact the school office, who will ensure that the appropriate member of staff responds. Wherever possible, we aim to respond to enquiries within 72 working hours.
This open approach helps ensure that any questions or concerns can be addressed quickly and that children feel supported both at home and in school.
Keeping Parents Informed
Clear communication helps families stay connected with school life.
Each week we send out a school newsletter, which is packed with information about learning, events, achievements and important reminders. We ask that you do read this each week to stay informed!
As part of our commitment to being environmentally responsible, the school operates a paperless communication system, so we ask parents and carers to check their emails regularly to ensure they receive important updates and information.
We also have a school Facebook page which we encourage parents and carers to follow. Our Facebook page is used to celebrate the many achievements and experiences that take place across the school, giving families a window into daily life at Eastern Green Junior School. Through regular updates, photographs and news, we share examples of learning, trips, events and successes so that parents can stay connected with what their children are experiencing in school.
Supporting Every Child Together
By maintaining strong communication with families, we ensure that every child is supported not only in their academic learning but also in their wellbeing, behaviour and personal development.
Our aim is to create a school community where children feel safe, valued and encouraged to achieve their very best. Through working closely with parents and carers, we can ensure that pupils develop the confidence, resilience and skills they need to succeed both in school and beyond.
Listening to Pupils and Parents
At Eastern Green Junior School, we believe that listening carefully to the views of pupils and parents helps us continually improve and ensures that children remain at the centre of everything we do.
We actively seek feedback from families through:
-
parent questionnaires and surveys
-
discussions during parents’ evenings
-
communication with the school office and leadership team
-
informal conversations with staff
Pupils are also encouraged to share their views about school life. Through class discussions, assemblies and opportunities to contribute to school initiatives, children are able to express their ideas and help shape the school community.
By listening to both pupils and parents, we are able to reflect on our practice, strengthen the quality of education we provide and ensure that the school continues to meet the needs of the children and families we serve.
Working together in this way helps us maintain a school culture where every child feels valued, supported and inspired to succeed.
At Eastern Green Junior School, everything we do is centred around helping children feel safe, valued and inspired to learn. Through strong partnerships with families, high expectations and a rich curriculum, we aim to ensure that every child leaves us confident, capable and fully prepared for the next stage of their education.
