Artsmark Silver Award
Over the last two years, Mrs Blake and Mrs Lawless have led the school on their Artsmark journey. Despite the events of the pandemic having a detrimental effect on education and wellbeing, we are extremely proud of our children’s achievements. We used our Artsmark journey to transform negativity from the pandemic into positive experiences, using arts to improve wellbeing and develop interests. This life-changing journey has had a lasting impact on the lives of young people, opening their minds to an array of experiences. We embedded a love of arts in our school ethos/curriculum, effectively implementing our action plan.
Please watch the Artsmark celebration video below to hear more from our students, teachers and parents about Arts provision in our school.
Our Eco- Sculpture Project
We worked with a local artist to create an Eco-Sculpture made entirely from recycled plastic bottles. This was displayed in the lower precinct in Coventry City Centre.
City of Culture
To celebrate the launch of City of Culture in Coventry, we took part in a variety of events in school including creating abstract banners which were displayed in the Upper Precinct.
We took part in the Nationwide Window Wanderland expedition whereby we decorated our windows to create a beautiful pathway for people to walk through and enjoy. We decorated our school windows and many families too part at home too.
At Eastern Green Junior School, we pride ourselves on providing opportunities for the children to experience many different art forms. The children have participated in a number of drama workshops and theatre performances throughout the year.
Avalon Care Home
We have a wonderful relationship with our local care home and frequently organise events with the staff and residents. A group of children took part in their 'Drama Divas' performance, and we won a community award for our contributions. Two children, and Mrs Aston, celebrated in style at their red carpet event.
We pride ourselves in our music provision in school. Children participate in weekly Kodaly music lessons, as well as having group and individual music lessons. We also have a school choir and band who perform regularly around the Coventry area including the local hospital and the Cathedral.
In order to make our curriculum exciting and engaging for the children, we revised our Art curriculum throughout school. This year, children have studied a variety of famous artists, as well as learning valuable art skills. They have also had visits from local artists which have been thoroughly enjoyed by all.
To celebrate World Book Day, we decided to run a whole school competition, including staff, to create your favourite book character using a potato. The results were fantastic and it was very difficult to select a winner!
