Design & Technology

Our Design and Technology Curriculum at Eastern Green Junior School

Our new Design and Technology curriculum has been created to provide an inspiring, rigorous and practical education for our children. Our aim in Design and Technology is for children to acquire a broad range of subject knowledge in three key areas: food technology, construction and textiles. Across each key area, we want children to produce a final product through research, planning, making and evaluating. We want children to understand how key events and individuals, in Design and Technology, have helped to shape the world we live in.

In food technology, we want to inspire children's curiosity around food; understanding the principles of a healthy and varied diet. We want children to understand seasonality; knowing where and how ingredients are grown, reared, caught and processed. We also want them to be competent in preparing and cooking a variety of dishes using a range of cooking techniques. In construction, children will understand how to use tools and equipment safely to perform practical tasks; understanding the significance of each one. In textiles, we want children to use a wide range of materials fit for a particular purpose.
